Winning Women: New series for Newstalk on the female athletes competing at London 2012

Over four weeks reporter Lisa Essuman and Chris Clarke have brought us behind the stories of Winning Women who are heading to the Olympic Games.

This August, Team Ireland sent 65 athletes to the Olympic games, 27 of whom are women. Among the athletes covered in the series, there will be Sycerika Mcmahon; the 17 year old swimmer and multi-gold winning medallist. Ireland’s first ever Olympic qualifier in Modern Pentathlon, Natalya Coyle. Raphoe, Donegal’s international badminton star; Chloe Magee. Mexican-American-Irish pole vaulter; Tori Pena and long distance marathon runners; Ava Hutchinson and Linda Byrne

Winning Women features legendary commentator Jimmy Magee, Olympic silver medalist Sonia O’Sullivan and Irish Times athletics correspondent Ian O’Riordan, among others.

The Media Show Episode 4: BAI releases report on RTÉ’s ‘Mission to Prey’

Chief Executive of TV3, David McRedmond discusses the station’s rising aspirations against a backdrop of financial restrictions and producer of The Media Show, Helen Shaw comments on the BAI report published May 4th following RTÉ’s libellous defamation of Father Kevin Reynold in its programme ‘Mission to Prey’, for which it has been fined €200,000.

Death of an Empire is five part radio series produced by Athena Media, exploring twenty years since the dissolution of the Soviet Union presented by Seamus Martin, former Moscow correspondent of The Irish Times, and exploring what made the Soviet Union, what led to its collapse and what it’s like inside modern Russia today.

The series began on RTÉ Radio 1 on January 7th 2012 at 7.30pm and is a five part series.

Each programme explores the historical events which shaped modern Russia from the leadership of Gorbachev to the coup d’etat in August 1991 which led to the collapse of the Soviet Union, to the era of Boris Yeltsin and the birth of modern Russia under Vladimir Putin.
