High Fidelity: A Century of Recorded Song with Jack L and Julie Feeney now available as podcasts

High Fidelity is a 26 part radio series presented by Jack L and Julie Feeney which featured on RTÉ lyric fm weekly between May and November 2011. It is a sound map of recorded song from Thomas Edison to the iPod from Tin Pan Alley to X-Factor.

An Opera for Carlow – Athena Media’s latest radio documentary airs on RTÉ lyric fm

Three years in the planning, one year in production, ‘An Opera for Carlow’ is the story of an extraordinary and unique community music and arts project led by conductor Fergus Sheil. Sheil, and his creative team composer Brian Irvine and director and writer John McIlduff, set up to create an opera from scratch working with the people of Carlow. On May 5th in the GB Shaw Theatre in Visual that opera ‘Shelter me from the Rain’ was premiered and this documentary produced by Athena Media is the story of the journey to that night and how the birth of that opera changed the lives of everyone involved.

Athena Media’s latest documentary was broadcast on RTÉ lyric fm on Friday 1st July at 7pm.

Performance preview of An Opera for Carlow series broadcast on RTÉ Lyric FM

The performance preview for Athena Media’s latest radio documentary series An Opera for Carlow, was broadcast on the 04th of May on RTE Lyric FM’s In Tempo programme.

This one year project follows the story of a community based music project in Carlow led by conductor Fergus Sheil where the professional music team are working with the people of Carlow to create, perform and stage a new opera at Carlow’s new arts centre Visual next month.

The opera is now called ‘Shelter Me from the Rain’ and is about the universal themes of love and weather. The opera has been led by conductor Fergus Sheil, composed by Brian Irvine, with words from John Mclduff and the voices of about a hundred people from around the county and beyond. Last night was the opening night of the performance. You can hear a preview of the opening song ‘Shelter me from the Rain’ as the participants and the creative team describe how the project has gone.

A full one hour documentary narrating the story of the project and the music will be broadcast during the summer on RTÉ Lyric fm. Presenter Paul Herriott will narrate the documentary. The documentary is due to air on Friday 1st July at 7pm on RTÉ Lyric fm.
